I find inspiration in the patterns, textures and colours of the natural world. The aim of my work is to share my delight in the beauty to be found in the small details all around us - in trees, plants, flowers and roots, rock, stone and water. I also enjoy working on animal subjects, trying to convey their individual personalities.
Coloured pencil is my favourite medium. It allows me to capture my subject on paper with directness and simplicity, enabling me to concentrate on the image rather than the technique. I am a member of the UK Coloured Pencil Society.
Following an inspirational year’s study of Art & Design at the University of Portsmouth, during which I was encouraged to explore and experiment, I am developing a broader variety of subjects, styles and media alongside my more traditional animal portraits.
I exhibit every year with Southern Nature and at a number of well-established shows local to my Hampshire home. In 2018 my work was selected for exhibition at the St Barbe Open for the third year running, and also at Southampton Art Gallery. In 2017 one of my coloured pencil drawings was shortlisted in the National Open Art competition, and in 2015 two graphite drawings were accepted and shown at the Society of Graphic Fine Art DRAW15 exhibition. I also take commissions for pet portraits, with many delighted clients.
