I am always happy to discuss commissions for pet portraits. These make wonderful, very personal gifts - or why not just treat yourself to a painting of a special friend? While dogs and cats make up most of my commissions, more unusual pets are welcome - I have painted guinea pigs, parakeets, and even a rhea!
To capture a true likeness and to portray your pet’s individual personality I would work in artist quality coloured pencils, or graphite if you prefer. I find a head-and-shoulders pose often works well - you can see examples on the gallery pages.
All commissed artwork is supplied mounted but unframed, allowing you to select a frame to suit your own taste and décor.
Prices start from £120, plus delivery by tracked mail, which will be charged at cost. Half of the price is payable in advance as a deposit and payment can be made by cheque or securely online via Paypal.
Please contact me to discuss your requirements, and we can talk about what exactly you have in mind.
Bear in mind that you do need to supply clear photographs for me to work from, and this is key to a successful picture. If possible, a selection of images will give me a better feel for your pet’s personality, though if one of the photos shows your pet in its most characteristic pose, please let me know.
Digital photos are best as they can be enlarged to show details. Using outdoor daylight is better than indoors with a flash as this distorts colours. Usually the most effective poses are taken from the pet’s own level, rather than looking down at them, and by standing further away and zooming in, rather than getting up close. When you send me your photos I can advise you on which is the most suitable to work from.
